“Pain is information. My role is to find what it is telling us, then build a clear plan for lasting change.”
About
Harrison Smith is a physiotherapist at RX Physiotherapy in Shellharbour with over 10 years of clinical experience.
His philosophy is simple: pain is rarely the real problem — it is information. He often describes pain as a “check engine light”: a useful warning signal, but not always located where the true fault exists.
Because of this, Harrison focuses on identifying the underlying cause of dysfunction rather than chasing symptoms. He performs detailed, full-body assessments to understand how the entire system is working together, then builds targeted treatment plans designed for lasting change.
His goal is to stand in your corner while you rebuild your body and confidence. That may involve reducing pain, addressing long-standing issues, improving body composition, building strength, and helping you reach meaningful performance goals.
Alongside physiotherapy, Harrison’s training in Sports and Exercise Science and Nutrition allows him to consider the bigger picture of recovery and performance.
Outside the clinic, Harrison lives what he teaches through surfing, freediving, strength training and snow sports.

Frequently asked questions
Why did you become a physiotherapist?
I became a physiotherapist because I am interested in understanding why the body breaks down, adapts and performs the way it does.
Pain and injury are rarely random. There is usually a reason behind them, even if that reason is not immediately obvious.
My work is about helping people understand what their body is telling them, then building a clear plan to create lasting change.
Why do people usually see you?
People usually see me when they have pain, recurring injuries, performance limitations, long-standing issues or frustration that previous treatment has not addressed the real cause of the problem.
My role is to assess the whole system, identify what is contributing, and build a targeted plan that helps the person move forward.
What does it mean when you say pain is like a check engine light?
Pain is a signal.
It tells us something needs attention, but it does not always tell us the full story. The location of pain is not always the location of the actual driver.
That is why I assess the whole body rather than only treating the painful area.
What is your treatment style?
My treatment style is detailed, direct and outcomes-focused.
I look at how the body is functioning as a whole system, then use that information to build a plan that addresses the underlying problem, not just the symptoms.
Do you work with athletes?
Yes. I have spent over 10 years working within women’s sport, including roles with Gordon Rugby, the Norwegian National Team and the FRN Wolverines.
I work with athletes and active people who want to improve performance, recover from injury and build long-term resilience.
What do you do outside the clinic?
Outside the clinic, I enjoy surfing, freediving, strength training and snow sports.
