Our story
One centre, two teams that finally talk to each other.

One Centre for Getting Out of Pain, Getting Strong and Staying That Way.
RX Active Health is a 1300sqm health and performance centre in Shellharbour, NSW. It is the home of RX Physiotherapy and Hustle Hut Health, now under one roof, with a clinic, a 24/7 gym, a recovery space with sauna and cold plunge, group rehabilitation classes and performance testing.
It started with one 650sqm space and a simple frustration. People got sent to a physio who told them to rest, then to a gym that pushed them too hard, and the two were never in the same room. So when the warehouse next door became available, founder Dr April Patterson took it, doubled the floor space, and built the place she always wanted to send people to. One team. One building. One plan for your body, from your first appointment to your hundredth session.
Two buildings, one purpose

“I had my initial assessment with Emily at RX Physiotherapy. She was thorough, professional, and took the time to explain my hypermobility and how it affects my knees and ankles. The session focused on detailed testing and building a structured plan, and I left with clear exercises and an understanding of what the next steps will be. A very knowledgeable and supportive clinician.”Posted on Google![]()

The RX Method
Ever left a physio visit unsure what the actual plan was?
You should leave your first appointment with a diagnosis you understand and a plan you can follow. The RX Method is one connected pathway of seven steps, from understanding the problem, to rebuilding capacity, to becoming stronger than where you started.
Understand you
Your history, symptoms and goals, before anything else.
Find the problem
How your whole body moves, not just where it hurts.
Measure it
VALD testing puts real numbers on your strength.
Build your plan
Your results become a clear, personal roadmap.
Rebuild and restore
Physio, small group, PT or Pilates based rehab.
Build strength
Past managing symptoms, into real capacity.
Recover better
Sauna and ice baths to reset and keep progressing.
Fewer appointments, more capacity.
Early on we see you more often. As your strength and confidence build, appointments space out and your gym program takes over, so you keep progressing without needing us as much.
- Each dot is an appointment
- Your gym program takes over
- Without a plan: flare up, rest, repeat
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy that starts with feeling understood.
At RX Physiotherapy you are not a number, a diagnosis, or a “too hard” case. We see the mum holding it together through sleepless nights and neck pain, the tradie worried this back pain might end the work he loves, and the lifter who has been told to stop moving when training is the only thing that helps. You deserve care that feels safe, personal and real.
Our founder, Dr April Patterson, lives with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, hypermobility and TMJ. She built this clinic around the care she wished she had received, which is why our team is known for the conditions other clinics find tricky.
Common conditions we treat
Hustle Hut Health
More than a gym. Built for strength that lasts.
We believe strength is the foundation of long-term health. Too many people start with good intentions and burn out, train too hard, follow the wrong program, or end up injured. The gym side of RX Active Health was built to change that. Train any hour in the 24/7 gym, join structured group strength sessions, work one-to-one with a trainer, and recover properly, all in the same building as the physios who can step in if something flares up.
Inside the gym
- 24/7 fully equipped two-storey floor
- Group strength training
- Personal training
- NDIS personal training
- Fitness Passport accepted
Recovery
Train hard. Recover smarter.
Recovery is part of training, not a reward for it. Our recovery space has an infrared sauna, a cold plunge and dedicated recovery rooms, so you can manage soreness, sleep better and come back stronger. Members can add it on, and it is open to the public too.
Performance testing · VALD
Most people look fine until we test them.
VALD measures what your body is actually doing, not just how it feels. Strength deficits, side-to-side imbalances, force absorption and power output. Your plan is built on data, not guesswork.
Find hidden imbalances
Spot side-to-side strength gaps before they become injuries.
Track real progress
Re-test in weeks. See exactly what’s improved and what’s next.
Train with clarity
One picture your physio and trainer both work from.
Rehab classes
Small-group rehab programs, supervised and built to progress.
When one-to-one treatment becomes ongoing strength work, our classes take over. Each program is small, supervised and structured around a specific goal.
Osteoporosis & Bone Health
Resistance training built to safely load bone and rebuild confidence.
Hypermobility & EDS
Stability, control and strength for bodies that move too freely.
Shoulder Rehab
From frozen shoulders to post-op rehab, rebuilt at the right pace.
Knee Strengthening
Progressive strength work for ACL, meniscus, patellar and osteoarthritic knees.
TMJ Relief
Jaw tension, headaches and clicking, addressed at the source.
Meet the team
The people you will actually see.
One team across the clinic and the gym floor, which is the whole point of doing this under one roof.
